How Matt Callen Made $9,423 in 10 Days promoting a $9.95 product!
(private post by Matt Callen for Muncheye JVs only)
Here’s my stats after a 10-day promotion.
The absolute, first step with this promotion was finding a product / sales funnel that had several crucial factors, including…
- A Brand NEW product
- a unique selling position and salescopy with proof elements from the creator of the product and/or users of the product (not just generic testimonials but stats and screenshots showing the benefits of what the product has been able to do).
- ideally there should be a software being sold in the frontend or in the upsell flow. (the product I promoted had a software element in the upsell, both upsell 1 and 2).
- High frontend commission % for affiliates, with a low price point.
How Did I Do It?
Product Name that I promoted: Page One Evolution, by Aidan Booth
– found a good, new offer with proof that was going to provide value to the market
– product solved a problem that already had a lot of natural “buzz”
– product had high conversion, both on the upsell and frontend (I was able to increase conversions for my promo with other strategies too… keep reading… you don’t always want to rely solely on the seller’s salescopy)
– product had high commissions (100% F/E)
– The sales flow had software offered during multiple upsells. According to research done by Chris Munch, software products sell the best, have highest conversion rates, and take up 40% of the market share for all successful product launches in the past year.
– The product was not an evergreen offer, so there was an urgency and scarcity factor involved. This one was great help for my promos.
IMPORTANT Notes:
– I created a bonus package for anyone who bought the $9.95 product through my link. I gave away 2 related SEO products (one software and one info-product) since Aidan’s product was about Google rankings. Since I was getting 100% commission on the frontend, and the upsells converted well, I knew that it would offset any costs of giving away copies of my bonus package.
– I created a customized promo page, showing all the details about my bonus package. It was important that I gave a real price value to EACH of the bonuses. The bonus value was far greater than the $9.95 price point. It was set at over $150 for a bonus. So essentially for spending $9.95, they would get over $150 worth of extra RELATED… QUALITY products.
How to BEST OFFER BONUSES:
There are 2 strategies you could go with here.
- Offer higher valued bonuses for anyone who purchases the frontend (this is what I did). I knew that the upsells were going to convert well because Aidan had some other past promotional stats showing that they converted really high. So I wasn’t worried about those converting well. To make the most out of a low-priced 100% commission product, you’ll want to do what you can to help with the upsell conversions too, especially if there is a recurring upsell option available (recurring commissions are awesome!). So if you’re not sure how well the upsells will convert, then I’d suggest doing option 2 below.
- Offer a package of 3-5 bonuses. Most are lower value bonuses, but have one high value bonus. Then only allow them to choose ONE bonus if they buy only the Frontend, and specifically exclude the highest value bonus from the choice. If they get the Upsell (ANY of the upsells) then they can get all bonuses. According to Chris Munch, this is one of the best promo strategies for a low priced frontend product. Chris shared with me that the last time he did this, his promo was getting over 50% conversion on the upsells! And the highest he’s had was 90%!
My Email Promo Schedule:
- Emailed once during prelaunch, two days before launch, to help get my cookies dropped and potential customers into Aidan’s launch funnel and to build some initial buzz. Since the offer was through JVZoo, the leads were cookied for life. The sooner they clicked on my affiliate link, the better! Also, Aidan had created urgency and allowed people who signed up to his prelaunch list get access to the product slightly before the rest of the general public. Since this product was going to sell out and not be an evergreen product, this had a big impact on creating urgency for the buyer. This is also a good time to set up a few retargeting advertising campaigns. Or you can advertise on Facebook to start creating some additional buzz.
- Emailed on Day 1 of Launch stressing the proof factor, showing that this was a truly inspiring story with attainable results, building Aidan’s credibility, showing how he’s solving this big problem.
- Emailed on Day 3 for a live webinar that I ran, teaching some of the “basics” of what the product taught, showing how some of our software that my customers already have can be used with this… And then I also gave some applicable strategies that could be used directly with Aidan’s teaching, while still leaving the main bulk of the teaching left for his product to do. This way, the webinar was mostly all content, with a soft sell at the end.
- Emailed a replay of the webinar on Day 5, with a reminder about the $150 bonuses I was giving away for buying a solid product at such a low $9 price.
- Emailed on Day 8 (I’d suggest day 8 and 9) with a “FINAL NOTICE” style email, and using some social proof… i.e. “Why 4,000 happy marketers can’t be wrong”. A simple honest comment like that goes along way when it comes to nudging someone to purchase a low priced product. When they see that so many others who purchased the product are happy about their purchase, they want to be one of the masses. In addition to social proof, knowing that they only have 24-48 hours left to grab the product, the urgency factor kicks into high gear! The MAIN point about this email promo was to remind them that the offer was closing in 24-48 hours and it would not be open in the future. By doing this, so far into the launch, I was able to sell nearly 50% of total sales during this time, compared to what I sold on the first day of the launch. The urgency and scarcity factor PLUS social proof here was HUGE!
HOW TO APPLY this strategy to your next promotion:
If you want to apply this to the Traffic Recon launch, here’s what to do…
– Recognize a “Problem” and Point it Out to the Reader
e.g. The past year, Google has dropped multiple bombs on just about everyone’s website rankings. There’s so much confusion about what is working in Google right now. Thousands of SEOs are going out of business because of Google’s algorithm changes.
– Switch the Focus from the Problem to a New Way of Thinking
e.g. It’s really disheartening to hear that so many people are suffering from the few “major” changes by Google. They’ve created so much confusion in our industry that many just don’t know what to do. But after hearing all the recent Google horror stories, and having to listen to forum junkies talk about how “SEO is dead”, I can’t tell you how motivating this is to hear for our sites and our clients’ sites.
Plain and simple. SEO is NOT dead, and it never will be. As long as there are search engines, there will be SEO. And as long as there’s SEO, there is potential for TONS of free traffic to your sites. We just need to evolve the way we do things. And this is exactly what we’ve been able to do so well, post-Google debacle.
And I’ve (Matt Callen) been able to generate millions of visitors AFTER all of Google’s updates! Yes… after all of this confusion.
Bottom line, controlling your link building the right way is crucial because it is LINKS that make your sites move up the search engines… plain and simple. And yes, you have to have good On-Page optimization to stay out of Panda’s reach, but it is still about links.
– Point the Negative Problems towards the “enemy”
e.g. Unfortunately there are so many “marketers” out there that are just teaching “theory” but aren’t applying what they’re preaching. They read about some tips on a forum, and try to act like they know what they’re talking about. But in reality, they don’t have anything to back up their “secret strategies”.
– Introduce the Solution
e.g. I (Matt Callen) know “Website Traffic”. I know how to generate it, and I know how to keep it coming. Over the past 6 months, I’ve generated over a million visitors to various websites. And all of this is after Google’s updates!
I’ve created SEO analysis and link building software, only made available as an upgrade to all Traffic Recon customers that works post-Panda,Penguin, and any other Google animal updates. It’s what I use, and it’s what has helped achieve the real results I’ve seen over the past several months.
– Create a DEMO video of all the Upsell Software products.
This is huge! Our salescopy will convert without you demo-ing the software, but like I said before, by you doing your own demo, it’s great for your customers to see YOU actually using it. Then offer an UPSELL-only bonus for those who buy the upsell (i.e. “The Chris Munch Strategy”).
Your Next Step…
I’d love to have your support on my next launch, August 14th 2013, for Traffic Recon, where I’m giving away 100% commissions.
The reason I’m doing this is because it worked SO WELL for me as AN AFFILIATE.
I wanted to recreate a similar sales flow and quality product during a time when our industry is questioning so much with traffic generation and SEO.
I’m not reinventing the wheel in terms of the 100% commission approach. BUT, Traffic Recon does meet all of the crucial requirements that make a low-priced product make a whole bunch of commissions for the affiliates!
– NEW, UNIQUE offer
– Solves a huge problem
– The problem has a lot of buzz on the internet and forums (NOW)
– The product offers software (multiple offers in the upsells)
– Offer has scarcity and urgency elements (only available for 10-14 days)
– Product has 100% commissions!
