$15m In Sales. Here’s What We’ve Learned – Viddyoze Growth
In September 2015, David, Jamie & myself (Joey) went on a mission to launch our first product together. A $67 JVZoo software product called Viddyoze.
That launch went on to generate $468,000 in revenue… little did we know that eventually that product would turn into an 8-figure SaaS business, serving over 100,000 paying customers, some of which include the largest brands in the world, Sony, Tesla, Vodafone, Starbucks and Pepsico to name a few.
That brings me to the first “lesson”. Not really a lesson, but more of a mindset shift.
I can’t speak for everyone, but I’m sure many reading this will be able to relate… when I first began creating and launching products back in 2013, my goal was to simply launch products, build a list, sell offers and launch more products. Whilst that is fine, it doesn’t have to be the end game (unless that’s all you want to do).
For myself and my partners, when launching Viddyoze our goal was clear from the onset:
“To build a $100m SaaS business that pays us day in and day out.”
We always wanted to grow Viddyoze. We didn’t want to just launch, set it aside and do something else. No. Viddyoze was more than that. It had appeal. It had mainstream viability. So we stuck with the product, improved it and scaled it.
After a while, Viddyoze wasn’t just an IM product. We have managed to pick up enterprise customers as mentioned before. We even managed to get into talks with the NBA about creating automated animation content (a work in progress)…
The lesson? Think beyond the sphere of IM. We see many fantastic products being released in our community, and with the correct mindset and long sightedness, those products can go way beyond that simple $x7 price point.
How do you take a product outside of the IM world? Honestly, it’s not rocket science:
- Target businesses with your product: Yes we can sell to the freelancers, other IM’ers or one-man band operations. But the solutions we build can be utilized by huge businesses, many of whom will sign multi-seat licenses with you that could be worth 7 figures on their own. Imagine doing this 20, 30, 40 times over?
- Reach out, cold call, build relationships: Traditional sales. Go out there, connect with the C-suite at larger companies and strike big deals. This is where the big money is made: Enterprise sales. WHilst we can sell our $67 software 100,000 times… wouldn’t it be cool if we could sell a $1,000,000 license to 1 customer?
Summary? Think bigger. Reach out to enterprise businesses, your product is worth it… if you don’t think it is, believe me, it is! There are enterprise solutions out there that don’t hold a torch to some of the incredible products I’ve seen released in the IM space. We have a unique edge in our community, and it’s time we take it beyond just the IM market. Think bigger, think B2B on a big scale.
Let’s move to “lesson two”, growing your subscriptions.
I’d like to point you to a tool we use religiously here at Viddyoze, called ProfitWell. A fantastic application that tracks your monthly churn rates, growth rate and much more.
Why should you measure these stats? Simple. MRR gives you a solid projection and indication of growth. Without subscriptions in your business, you’ll eventually burn out.
So my advice is:
- Ensure that you add a subscription element to your product.
- Ensure you do your absolute best to retain your customers.
- Use tools like ProfitWell to not only track your subscriptions, but also RETAIN customers! (A little secret weapon ProfitWell has, and it’s virtually free… thank me later)
Just to expand on point 3. Check out how RETAIN can help you keep your churn rate low:
Sure, $3906 might not sound like a lot by itself. But compounding that money every single month, attempting to keep your churn low and your MRR high, it’s absolutely a significant number.
Summary? Go get ProfitWell, again thank me later!
My final “lesson”, utilize the launch strategy to grow your business.
When I see folks launching new products all the time, I wonder why they shift so much. Going from releasing a video product, to an autoresponder, to an info product on SEO. Just stick to 1 lane, build out a suite of tools that fit and play well with each other.
Not only does this build value in your business, but it gives a new lease of life to your existing portfolio of products.
If (like us) you want to one day eventually exit your business, those other properties will help build more value to your (hopefully) acquisition. We spend time building solutions that fit perfectly with our original IP.
Aside from that, launching new products does 1 obvious thing; makes you a metric ton of cash very easily. Cash is King. Recurring revenue is Queen. You can accelerate both of these things by launching new products.
Does that mean you stop building your MRR through more organic and evergreen methods? Of course not. We do both. We use the launch game to increase cash flow, increase recurring revenue and essentially help us to grow in all other areas of the business by reinvesting money into scaling up.
That’s what we’re about to do now…
We’re launching a brand new SaaS platform that perfectly compliments our Viddyoze product. It’s called Klippyo (we even kept the names relatively similar).
Klippyo is a web based video creator that allows users to create content very quickly & easily, using just their mobile device. Even if they don’t want to shoot videos, they can use the built-in assets to create incredible video content, from any device, anywhere in the world. All they need is an internet connection.
The beauty? Viddyoze integrates right into Klippyo. So guess what? All that juicy launch traffic that hits Klippyo, will feed perfectly into Viddyoze.
*Evil laugh here
But no really, Klippyo is going to be a monster product. We’ve got proven stats, a proven funnel, and a reputation of delivering stellar launches and looking after our affiliates.
If you’d like to learn more about our upcoming launch, check out www.klippyo.com/partners
From everyone here at the Viddyoze team, keep on crushing, growing and scaling.
